Longtime community parade honors veterans in Wahiawa

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hundreds gathered in Wahiawa Monday for the 78th annual Wahiawa Lions Veterans Day Parade.
The theme was “Honoring Guardians of our Freedom,” and parade participants included community groups, marching bands, vintage car drivers, and branches of the armed forces.
People lined the streets to celebrate our veterans, throw shakas, and say mahalo to all of the participants in the parade.
“No matter what’s going on, we live in the greatest nation and and to be able to defend that is one of the proudest things that I say that I’ve ever been a part of,” one veteran remarked. “Hopefully our youth can can continue to grow and understand and know that this is definitely the greatest nation on earth and worth defending.”
Marine veteran Mark Patrick said, “I think every veteran in our country needs to be recognized and remembered. I think that brings out a trust and a love that all aloha. We all get together. I think it just all works together better if we remember the community comes together to say thank you to our veterans.”
The parade stretched from Wahiawa District Park to Kaala Elementary School.
